West of the Pennines [Aug. 26th, 2005|05:41 pm]
Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
Yesterday to a funeral in Lancashire, a very fragmented day with old friends, motorway traffic, beautiful scenery, a Methodist minister and a hundred-year-old pub.

We collected Chris, for whose anniversary party we had last crossed the Pennines, and talked about her family roots in the village where the party had been held. Her grandfather had farmed locally, and had been active in the reintroduction of the local Herdwick sheep. This interest brought him into contact with another partisan (and pize-winning breeder) of the Herdwick, Mrs Heelis - better known for the pictures and stories for children which she published under her maiden name, Beatrix Potter.

How's that for six degrees of separation?
