We can haz Bears! [May. 16th, 2014|10:41 pm]

A good night's sleep. with the sea murmuring below the windows, toaster and cafetiere successfully wrangled to produce a satisfactory breakfast, and a soft, almost sunny morning spent exploring the village, all left me feeling much more sanguine. We strolled out to the point where the coastal path heads off to St Monans. There's a reason why those bluebells yesterday looked such a deep and surprising blue: they are a different flower, more thickly clustered on the stem, the petals more curled...

We took the scenic route into Kirkaldy, pausing in the village of Colinsburgh to admire a very striking Town Hall, and a magnificent library. We collected the Bears from their train, and paused on the way out of the station to chat to someone they knew from London, who had managed to travel up on the same trains and only meet at the very end of the journey. There were supplies to be gathered for the evening meal, and we confused the sat-nav by visiting an Aldi which had not been there when she was programmed - which was fun, but not as much fun as the Ardross Farm Shop.

By the time we got home, it was high tide, and I went down to the end of the jetty to take this picture: our house is the pink one in the corner:

High Tide

I went straight to the Ardross Farm page and now I'm dreaming of pheasants and goose fat... (not actually cooked together)

I won't say "Alas, we have vegetarians!" for they are good vegetarians, and we are glad they are here. Nonetheless, we will not be cooking pheasants, or anything else in goose fat. But please to dream. (I had crab sandwiches for lunch, and they were good but not astonishing).

I don't think I have ever locked a travel post; and I don't know what a friend request means. There's an etiquette here, I'm guessing, but I don't know it. But of course I would be happy to be friends with sunspiral, in the LJ sense or IRL, and I'm happy for him to read my LJ with or without that preliminary. Please to translate this into the appropriate polite form, and tell me what to do next! (smiley emoticon here)

Hi, I've just added you as a friend. weegoddess has mentioned you and yours many times over the years and I hope that we can meet IRL when roozle and I visit England for Loncon 3 this August. (I regret that we never met during my visits to see weegoddess in Durham.) We're planning to be up in Durham for a day after the con so that roozle can finally see it. She has a bit of a family connection since her dad lived there briefly when he was a young child.

Hi - good to speak to you directly after all this time! It would be great to meet in person in August - do you have a date for your Durham trip yet?

We contacted the housekeeper, who brought us towels and light bulbs; we have shopped for dishwasher tablets and durham_rambler has taken charge of the dishwasher.

Port and pastry goes a long way towards making anyone feel mellow - I just read that paragraph to GirlBear, who was amused (BoyBear is having an afternoon nap).
