Eurovision [May. 24th, 2015|05:50 pm]
[Tags|, , ]

Specially for athenais, the Scandinavia and the World version.

Why yes, we were watching: I baled after the songs, but durham_rambler stayed up until the bitter end of the voting. I thought the songs themselves were unmemorable, but there were some interesting themes in there. Anyone who elected to sing in their own language gets bonus points from me, but the stand-out WTF Eurovision moment was surely Serbia's entry, "Let it Go" from Frozen as it would have been if Elsa had been played by Meat Loaf.

Serbia ROCKED. I liked Hungary, they should have done better. Russia's singer was so good but ugh, the song. In fact, this year was sadly lacking the crazy that is the reason I watch. Where were the sequins? The vampires? The space age cross-dressers? A letdown. SatW is right about Sweden's competitiveness, for sure. :)

Serbia ROCKED.

Did I say otherwise?

Hungary I thought was sweet, but the lyrics were SO terrible. If she'd sung in Magyar we might not have noticed...

Russia: well, it is about the song, not the singer - in theory, anyway. Also, however much this is supposed not to be political, people must have been thinking 'do we want to go to Moscow next year?'

Serbia rocked a pretty good crazy, that's what I was saying. Then there was the Goth warrior princess. And actually, while France wasn't sequins'n'fun crazy, I thought it was pretty weird - but she needed to be Piaf to pull it off, and she wasn't.

No, I realize you were not discounting Serbia's rockingness. It was definitely a crazy entry. I must have been dazzled by whoever the entry was that had the "policewoman" in stripper shorts.

Honestly, so many of the lyrics were terrible. What is it about English that causes everyone to rhyme June with moon and use tired old analogies?

A Danish member of my Graphic Novels Reading Group is a big fan, and has got us all reading it. Apparently it's a very good depiction of the Danish point of view!
